So this HBO show is one I had never heard of until it began to be mentioned by the hosts of a group of podcasts I listened to about The Walking Dead. After continually hearing small bits about The Leftovers, I decided I should check it out, or at least determine if it's worth checking out.

The short: 2% of the worlds population (140 million people?) suddenly vanish. To where I am at, the show doesn't bother to address why this happened (or I guess they do, but they don't focus on that at all) but the aftermath, including various cults that rise, others that fall, and many of the events that happened in the three years since The Disappearance.

I've only watched the first three episodes, but I'm incredibly high on this show, and have heard that the second season is outstanding... it just wrapped up in the first week of December.

The showrunner is Damon Lindelof, who is known for being the showrunner of Lost. Also, the show is based on a book by Tom Perrotta

Go watch it!

I don't watch it but I do have some good/bad news for you, they've announced it will end after the next season, but hey, it's getting a 3rd and final season.

I think I watched a few episodes of it, a guy and his daughter and a woman in a house full of cult like women? That sound right? If so it was ok, but not something I went out of my way to see.

Yeah, those are basically the important characters at this point. Episodes one and two were a little more world building and character introducing than I would've hoped for, but three was a very well crafted piece of television. Bummed to hear that it'll end after season 3. Ratings have dropped consistently, in spite of what I have heard about the quality of the show getting better.

*Oh well....

I have watched up through Season 2 Episode 8. Two more left.

This is probably the best television show I have ever watched. Un-fuckin'-believable. Literally everything ties full circle, every element is explained, countless subtleties connect themes episode over episode, and both seasons have led to perfect harmony in the show. Seriously, go watch it... and do so thoughtfully, with will to believe that everything in the background relates to something in the foreground. Just outstanding.

Bro Leftovers is legit.  It's such a beautifully written show.  I love everything about it.

It's not something you can watch while doing something else, you gotta pay attention, but it's worth it.

That said, the show runners have said in interviews they don't plan to fully explain WHY the departed disappeared, because doing so would kind of hurt the show.

So glad to have some approval, particularly yours hahaha. 100% though, you have to actively watch. Question everything, see everything, and believe that everything will make sense.

I finished both seasons earlier this month and am rewatching now with my girlfriend. She wants to know more about the departure and how/why/etc... finally figured out how to explain that that's not the point of the show, and it doubles as a response to your last statement: The show is called The Leftovers. It's about those leftover from the disappearance, not that act of the disappearance itself.

Boom. #MicDrop.
